Song of The Lake

AV Installation, multi channel or single channel; Vinyl, Limited Edition of 5, 5 still available
Materials: Buoy: Arduino, Accelerometer Sensor, various electronics; Sonification: Openframeworks, Audacity, Paulstretch, Ableton Live

The work departs from the assumption that there must be periodic wave movements in the water. Using a custom built data buoy, the movement of the waves in a lake are recorded. In a later stage, the data is sped up 400x of its original speed. This results in the waves being pitched up into audible sound waves. As the sound derived from the data becomes extremely short, it is time stretched into a longer sound piece. The resulting soundscape is subsequently carved onto a vinyl record, so the waves of the lake are now on the record.

The work is shown as an AV installation with one or two video channels accompanied by the bassy soundscape from the data sonification.
